About Us

animalstory is run and managed by partners Martyn and Dawn.

Martyn has always had a strong interest in keeping animals and from a very early age helped his parent’s feed and care for an assortment of farm animals, although they didn’t own a farm! On the list were horses, a couple of cows and pigs, chicken, ducks and geese. Oh... and some goats that were milked each day in the cellar! Frogs and newts were a favourite, which were mainly collected from around the garden or from water troughs in local farmers’ fields.
Many years later; whilst at University in 1993 during the undertaking of a degree in interior textiles, Martyn came across some White’s tree frogs being sold at a local pet shop, and became hooked! Over the next six years he not only kept, but bred many species of African reed frogs and South American monkey frogs. Some of which had not been bred in captivity before. A few years later breeding four-horned mountain chameleons became added to the list of oddities. It took some time to become interested in other exotics but one thing leads to another and soon snakes, spiders and various insects were also being kept. Perhaps it was inevitable that he would come to work with animals in the future.

For the past nine years Martyn has been presenting animal related talks to thousands of school pupils up and down the country. Not only are schools covered but Nurseries, Nursing homes, out of school groups, clubs, birthday parties, libraries, museums, corporate events, fates, science events, colleges and universities.
Martyn is responsible for all visits and care for the exotic animals kept. He has an extensive knowledge in caring for a large number of species. At present they home over forty species of animals. Although he still keeps a few frogs and toads; breeding has moved to various colour phases of almost thirty Central and South American Boa constrictors and most of the uncountable invertebrates kept, are bred on a regular basis.

Dawn on the other hand didn’t keep any pets...well there was the gold fish that jack, decided to take to bed but sadly that didn’t live very long. Since being together for the past nine years Dawn has come to love many of the creatures kept. There are a few like the tarantulas and boas she would rather avoid, however with snake hook in hand there is little that she won’t tackle!

Dawn is responsible for all office duties and for digger the skunk, when not in school. During the day it is her that will most likely be helping you to choose your topic and plan your unforgettable animal experience.
There are a number of exciting plans to add to the existing list of programs over the next twelve months, these include ‘dove releases’ and ‘team building’ events. If you would like help in any way please contact us by filling out the contact form and you will receive a call back within 24 hours.
